Meet CenterPoint’s Bryan Murray...
... Healthcare Representative with the Pfizer Corporation
New CenterPoint member Bryan Murray’s idea of a perfect day includes working hard and playing hard. With a growing family and busy career he has plenty of opportunities to do both.
When it comes to work, Bryan spends his days traveling as a Pfizer Healthcare Representative, both locally in Tallahassee as well as over to Marianna and along the coast to Port St. Joe. “My job is to drive market share for our products among the physicians in my territory,” Bryan says. He does this by building relationships with doctors and educating them on the features and benefits of the pharmaceutical products his company offers. As he explains, “My objective is not to sell Lipitor, but to sell what Lipitor can do for patients.”
Before relocating to Tallahassee last September to begin work with Pfizer, Bryan served, along with his wife, Yani, as a full-time missionary with the Impact Movement, Inc. “My role as a staff member was to specifically mobilize college students to help live and fulfill Christ’s command to reach everyone with the reality that salvation is available through his death and resurrection,” he explains. After Impact stints in North Carolina and Orlando, Bryan and Yani sensed God leading them in another direction, but he feels that skills he developed in ministry have translated to his new job. Specifically he cites the ability to relate to people of all demographics, strategic planning, and leadership.
Bryan believes in the products he represents and he enjoys the work. As the end of his first year with Pfizer approaches, he says he is “learning to trust God’s word and ways in the midst of quotas, deadlines, and competition from colleagues as well as those with other products.”
Initially Bryan, a Seattle native and University of Oregon graduate, disliked the lack of cultural attractions in Tallahassee, but he and Yani are settling into life here. Although he misses an array of choices, he’s “learning to appreciate the opportunity to grow with the city.”
And Bryan and Yani are personally contributing to Tallahassee’s growth as they await the birth of their twin sons soon. The boys will join big sisters, Jayda, three, and Anaya, fourteen months. About being a dad, Bryan says, “Fatherhood is such a privilege. I enjoy the investment of time and love I am able to give my children.” He adds, “I also appreciate how the relationship I have with my children is a demonstration of love to my wife.”
A Certified Diabetes Educator Bryan worked with initially directed the Murrays to CenterPoint. After researching the church online, the family decided to attend for the first time last January. The checks and balances of CenterPoint’s ecclesiastical structure appealed to them. They also liked the idea of having a church in the center of the city because of the potential to attract a variety of people.
To date, Bryan’s primary connection to CenterPoint has been his family’s involvement in a weekly community group and Sunday services. In the future, he can see himself helping to meet needs that he himself experiences. “If it’s a need for me, I will initiate it,” he relates. As a new church, no doubt opportunities will abound at CenterPoint for him to employ his teaching and training gifts.
When he does, Bryan will bring his personal connection to Christ to the table, and CenterPoint will be richer for it. He says, “I am learning to recognize and appreciate the grace of God more. I realize how I am, and have never been, worthy of his many benefits. Nevertheless, I experience them every day.”
And that brings us back to Bryan’s perfect day. The playing part? You may find him enjoying a good book, a round of golf, or, most assuredly, time with his family. - Lori Hutto
